For background, Corwyn is the town not too far from the convent, located on the coast, along the Coastal Way (the road).]
The town of Corwyn was barely four miles away from the Mother of the Moon Convent, and so it was a favorite destination for various Daughters who wanted to go somewhere, or do something, for the day. Today was certainly no exception. It was one of those late summer days, bright and clear, and with the approaching autumn, a little cool. More importantly, it was the day before the beginning of the term at the convent.
So, it was only natural that Brent of Runnerspring, the new instructor of magic, decided to take the walk into town, to see what there was to be seen. The last few weeks had been chaotic, with leaving the University, arriving at the convent, settling in, creating lesson plans, and several other small yet important tasks that he didnt want to do that had to be done anyway.
But today was his vacation day. He would try to meet some people a pursuit which he had not had much success in. As the only male staff member at the convent, as well as being new, he felt oddly alone. He hoped he wouldnt regret his decision to teach here.
After two hours, most of which spent at a small bookshop debating whether to buy a book titled Battle Magic and its Many Uses, written by a recognized Carthaki black robe (he opted not to, deciding that he could get a better price in Corus), he stopped in front of a well-kept, clean-looking inn. The sign in front had announced its name to be The Silver Swan and as soon as Brent had come through the doorway, he realized he had come to the right place. The inn seemed to be the towns unofficial meeting place nobles and commoners alike gathered around tables to discuss business, family, and politics. As seemed to be the recurring theme in the area, women were in the majority.
Brent made his way over to a small deserted table near an open window. A serving girl came by and offered him a tankard. He refused. Last time he had drunk, six years ago, there had been drastic results, including the loss of control of his magic. He hadnt repeated the experiment. Asking the girl for a glass of water, he turned back to watching the people milling around outside the window.
It was just then that
[This would be a really good time for a student to burst through the door *hint, hint*
